TAFE SHELLHARBOUR

TAFE NSW Shellharbour is located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. The TAFE is centred in the town amongst the city’s shopping centre, gyms, cafes, restaurants, and entertainment hubs. All TAFE NSW education facilities offer a different degree of course opportunities to their students. Shellharbour TAFE specialises in programs covering business and administration services, nursing, engineering and automotive trade courses, child studies, health and recreation, and maritime courses.

TAFE Shellharbour prides themselves in providing modern, state-of-the-art training facilities, providing the very best opportunities for their students to excel across all levels of education. TAFE Shellharbour approached Astra due to their support with Reconciliation Week which provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The TAFE required a canvas for the community to contribute with Indigenous artwork on each of the concrete plinths. The finished product offered a modern seating solution for the students within the TAFE as well as displaying the stories and history of Indigenous artwork.

TAFE NSW like to pay their respects to and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land, rivers, and sea. They acknowledge and pay their respects to the Elders, past, present, and emerging, of all nations. As part of Reconciliation Week 2020, Astra Street Furniture was entrusted to supply 37 Concrete Plinth Bases and 37 Madrid Plinth Mount Benches across 14 campuses.

Later in 2021, an unprecedented milestone was achieved: Astra Street Furniture supplied an order for almost 200 pieces of outdoor furniture, assembled and dispatched to 11 campuses for TAFE NSW within two weeks from date of order!

What the client said

“The benches are part of the Reconciliation Week project and were a great success in creating indigenous yarning circles. The product is maintenance free, vandal-proof, has recycled content and the concrete bases enabled them to involve the community to apply indigenous artwork. They really look ‘Deadly’ (Indigenous for Awesome!).”
