Birrong Girls High is a large single-sex comprehensive and culturally diverse school located in Sydney’s West. It was established on 29 January 1957 as Birrong Home Science School. It was then officially reopened as a multi-lateral high school, with the new name Birrong Girls High School, on 25 September 1959. In 2018, the school had enrolled 790 students from Year 7 to Year 12, with 94 percent being from a language background other than English. Among its current students, there is a diverse range of cultural backgrounds representing 46 language groups, the majority from Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Turkish backgrounds.

The school places a strong emphasis on quality teaching, values, and academic excellence for each and every student with high expectations for both teaching and learning. The school was recently a recipient of the Australian Government National Award for Quality schooling in acknowledgement of their achievements. The girls have been very successful in national and state academic competitions as well as receiving merit for debating, drama, art, sport, citizenship, and environmental protection. Seen through this, the school offers a range of academic and recreational opportunities to compliment the success of their education experience.

What the client said

“A government minister was coming to visit our school, and our outdoor furniture was really old. Our principal wanted to get some nice new furniture in time for the ministers’ visit, however most of the outdoor furniture companies she rang had a six-week lead time! Our principal remembered Astra Street Furniture, and when she called up was happy to find that Astra had it all in stock ready for delivery the next day! Everyone is happy with the furniture, and it looks really good.”
