Nestled in the heart of Southport and inspired by its rich Queensland heritage, CSi Club Southport has been reimagined with a multi-million dollar transformation, delivering modern sophistication, exceptional amenities and experiences designed with the whole family in mind. 

Urbania, the exclusive Australian distributor of Richter Spielgeräte play equipment, spoke to the architect BSPN and General Manager of CSi Club Southport about the project, Urbania's first indoor Richter Spielgeräte installation.

Where did the renovations take place?

An underutilised alfresco dining space was converted into six distinct areas: a senior play area using Richter Spielgeräte equipment, a junior play area, a family outdoor dining area, splash-pad, sports bar and a beer garden.

What was the playspace vision?

The intent was for play areas which are fun and different, with a focus on accessibility for all ages and abilities. Imaginative play that made kids forget about computer games and a design which would stand out compared to other venues.

Why was Richter Spielgeräte equipment selected?

Richter Spielgeräte play equipment has a unique design and uses sustainable materials. The concept for the playspace was an enchanted garden, with tactile, imaginative play in a treehouse design.

Did the playspace meet the design brief?

Working with one of the world’s leading playground designers and manufacturers provided the opportunity to fully customise the final outcome, allowing us to meet several highly specific design and performance requirements. The result is an adventure treehouse offering climbing challenges and the excitement of height for older children, while also catering to younger kids with various sensory play equipment and games and some low stimulation stone animals for littlies.

The result speaks for itself. Watching children interact with the space confirms that the playground has been a tremendous success — it’s a place they genuinely love to explore and enjoy.
