Fleetwood Urban is the successful tenderer for a Design and Construct package on the 650 lot development known as Greenway, located in NSW's major growth corridor.Fleetwood’s Project Director, Roger Joyce, says: “The brief was to design and construct an access path that covers a wetlands area between two subdivisions. Our solution to this requirement included a proprietary modular bridging system, to which we have made specific aesthetical changes, to match the overall design vision for the community.
"The design aesthetic needed to be carried across to the other park elements, and so a number of our attractive standard shelter and amenities structures were designed into the Community. We were fortunate in being able to collaborate with the Landscape Architect to bring a distinct design thread woven through all structures, to life.”
With the project valued at just under $1 million, it represents a significant investment in the community.
It is a substantial project with three key shareholders:
- The Developer wanted a cost-effective proposal.
- Council wanted to ensure that the solution was one that was easy to maintain, was accessible for a variety of users, met all the building standards and was sensitive to the ecology of the wetlands.
- The Landscape Architect wanted a beautiful solution that was easy to implement.
And – as always – we needed to be able to deliver a practical solution on time and on budget.

The walkway will give families an opportunity to get out into the natural environment and walk through the wetlands for relaxation and exercise. The structure will also accommodate families walking with small children on bikes or parents pushing strollers.
While Fleetwood Urban was focused on the practical needs of the developer and council, the team was also mindful of providing a user-friendly structure that would fit into the surrounds.
“Everything from the balustrade design, to the type of decking we have used; the whole structure works and fits together to provide an aesthetic look that is both modern and suits the natural environment,” Fleetwood's Director of Design, Mark Jol, says.
