The Auckland Airport shopping centre was refurbished in 2014. Part of the project included gabion columns as seen in the photographs. The architects were Buchan Group of Auckland. The architect designed the cladding in such a way that there were no sharp edges in the corners of the columns as can be seen clearly in photo 9. The bends were made at a local sheet metal factory to prevent damage to the coating system. The columns are 7m in height and 525mm x 750mm. Each column has a steel column internally, so the gabion is a cladding. The gabion was custom manufactured to 75mm x 50mm in 4mm AL-TEN™ (Al 10 Zn 90), 4mm wire.
