Baron Forge specialises in detailed hard and soft landscaping in commercial building works, with over 30 years experience in the industry. But the recently completed parklands at the new Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital opened up a new arena of design and construction expertise for these civil landscapers.

Located on the site of the former children’s hospital, the play space within the Royal Park project was created and built by Baron Forge in partnership with Richter Spielgeräte. In association with Lend Lease, the developers of the project, Baron Forge designed and created a magical playground which marked their first large scale play space project.

Designed from the ground up, the new park includes plants and play elements that represent the indigenous traditions of the area. Including open grassy spaces with natural vegetation, seating and picnic areas, and a network of winding paths and hidden spaces, the new Royal Park is an inviting landscape for visitors.

With respect for the space of the new parklands, great attention was paid to ensure the plants and shrubs selected for this project were compatible with the environment and will provide a lasting future for the park. But what makes this space especially wondrous are the play spaces.

Located within the sphere of the Royal Children’s Hospital, it is encouraging to see that Baron Forge has spared no creative force in designing and implementing play spaces that are guaranteed to delight children and adults alike. Within the park patrons will find a climbing forest, a rocky escarpment with slides, swings and even water-play elements.

Through their partnership with Richter Spielgeräte, producers of playground equipment that references the natural elements, Baron Forge was able to create a playground on a much larger scale than ever before. This partnership provided a completed space from design through construction and to completion, opening up new possibilities for Baron Forge to play in.
