The program for the Parks and Leisure Australia National Conference [PLA2019] Australia’s premier event for parks, leisure, health and sporting professionals, has just been announced.
Mark Band, CEO of Parks & Leisure Australia (PLA), said, “PLA2019 will set the stage for a national discussion on the importance of linking parks, open spaces and facilities to our health, wellbeing and sporting performance, and will address the fundamental need for good policy, planning and provision of parks, open spaces and facilities.”
The conference will officially open on Sunday 27 October by HON Mick Murray MLA, Minister for Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering; Sport and Recreation.
The list of speakers for this year’s conference is extensive and features a range of respected voices within the industry.
“The calibre of this year’s speakers and exhibitors is outstanding and cements the national PLA Conference and Exhibition as a premier event and meeting point of Australia’s parks, leisure, health and sporting industry thought leaders and industry innovators,” said Band.
“With so many sector leaders under one roof, this event will highlight the ways in which our sector is linking parks, open spaces and facilities to our health, well-being and sporting performance and will address the fundamental need for good policy, planning and provision of parks, open spaces and facilities.”
The opening event on Day One will be hosted by Narelda Jacobs, with keynote speeches from Kia Dowell, Commissioner, WA Tourism/ Executive Director, Indigenous Business Australia, and Mayor Erion Veliaj, who has gained worldwide acclaim for transforming the city of Tirana, Albania.
The second day will be headlined by Katie Sarah, mountaineer, pioneer and volunteer, and the first woman in the world to complete ‘Seven-Seven’, the successful completion of seven summit climbs of the highest peaks on each continent.
The conference program will cover the latest Australian and international trends and future directions and culminate in the prestigious Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence.
PLA2019 will be held from 27-30 October at the Crown Perth, Burswood, Western Australia.
