GEOMETRIC GREENERY
17 Mar 2022
Austrian architecture-firm Berger+Parkkinen has recently completed a new organic office building for film production company Terra Mater. Located in Hietzing, Vienna, the timber and metal structure will soon become overgrown with plant life and blend in to its natural surroundings.
With a goal for sustainability and innovation with the ability to be a flexible space, Berger+Parkkinen has delivered a one-of-a-kind design. The two-story timber pavilion is enclosed by Rank metal structures that weave around the exterior of the building. The geometric pattern created by the metal structures will help climbing plants to envelope the building and completely cover it with greenery.
The interior replicates the exterior landscape, with white glazed timber structures throughout the office space and meeting rooms. Along with a newly designed entrance, cooling centre and employee lounge, this fresh office space has been given the ultimate organic makeover.
Specific plant species have been selected on this project to create an ever-changing appearance to the building depending on the seasons and weather conditions. As well as creating complete privacy for tenants when the plant life snakes its way up the structure. We’ve seen green walls before, but never like this. Berger+Parkkinen are breaking the boundaries with this brand-new design for climbing plants and transforming the way we incorporate our exterior landscapes into our everyday spaces.
