Natureworks designed and constructed a bespoke organic seedpod cubby and a series of native wildlife sculptures for Rotary Park Walk playground in Jimboomba, QLD, providing an enchanting play experience for kids of all ages.
Natureworks is a unique nature-based fabrication company renowned for creating realistic and fantastical sculptures of trees, cubby playhouses, wildlife animals, dinosaurs, prehistoric creatures, artificial rocks, caves and archaeological art.
The company is currently focused on designing and constructing a unique range of curriculum-enhancing, custom-built nature-based playground elements that bring the magic of the natural world into the indoor and outdoor area, nurturing the lost love or art and natural history in "tomorrows children”.
Logan City Council recently commissioned Natureworks to design and create a cubby and a series of native wildlife sculptures for a local playground.
The organic seedpod cubby by Natureworks was inspired by the seedpod of the local Melaleuca tree, and the magical and imaginative artistic elements of nature. This organic seedpod cubby was custom designed and manufactured in concrete. If you are after a variation to suit your requirements, Natureworks can work with you to design what suits. Perhaps a different species of seedpod might be more appropriate for your indoor or outdoor playspace.
The construction of the cubby is sturdy with an internal steel armature, and is designed to be climbed on, with a little opening at the top for kids to sit and enjoy a view from raised platform. The internal organic fungi seating and the decorative elements make this a great choice for children to incorporate a natural element into their imaginative play and provide a connection with their environment.
This unique cubby helps create a charming and beautiful playspace and an opportunity for connecting with nature both within the local and wider community, and helps to inspire natural elements in other playgrounds around Brisbane.
In addition to the cubby, Natureworks created a series of native wildlife animal sculptures to be placed around the park including a kookaburra, a koala and a platypus.
The tying together and expression of nature’s beauty in sculptured form can serve a purpose beyond being an object. It can also address pressing environmental issues and topics about conservation, sustainability, preservation, biodiversity and threatened habitats.
Art has the ability to interact with and educate the viewer about these issues, spreading awareness about such important topics. Natureworks feels an instinctual need to take care of the things the community feels connected to. The joy of art and play combined can help renew or spark our connection with nature.
