SUPER DRAINS FOR SUPERCARS
16 Jan 2018
Recently, the Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia went through a significant upgrade to the course, which required a sturdy drain system that ensured adequate drainage and had the strength and durability to withstand the racing environment.
Barbagallo Raceway is a motorsport circuit in Wanneroo, located about 50km north of Perth. The track holds a number of major race meets each year, the greatest being the Perth SuperSprint. This is one of the biggest sporting events in Western Australia each year with over 50,000 people attending the 3-day event. The circuit also hosts a number of motorcycle racing and training events, including the WA State Championships for Superbikes, Supersport and Sidecars.
The V8 Supercar was removed from the circuit for a year which gave the WA Government the opportunity to fund a significant upgrade of the facility. The tracks were widened and a new pit facility was built in the centre of the circuit, which included a connecting bridge. In addition to this, new lighting and safety barriers were installed and all facilities and buildings were upgraded.
This new pit facility would need a strong and stable drainage system to ensure the circuit stayed as dry and flood-free as possible. ACO’s PowerDrain system, equipped with heavy duty anti-shunt boltless locking grates, was selected to withstand the dynamic wheel loads of vehicles exiting the garage area. ACO free technical support was used by designers to help size the trench drain system to ensure rainfall would not leave ponding in the pit area.
The PowerDrain S200K with Slotted ductile iron grates features a 200mm internal width with either a slotted or Iron Intercept Heelsafe® Anti-Slipgrate designed to withstand the heaviest applications up to Load Class G (AS 3996).
The PowerDrain S200K includes:
- 1-40 sloped system
- 0.5% slope
- Developed V-shaped profile
- 5 neutrals
- 4 half metres
- Knock outs every 5th channel
- Installation device
- Visible channel markings
- 200mm internal width
- In-line pit
Each grate is secured by two PowerLok clips and the unique fit between the trench body edge rail and the grate provide multiple anti-shunt locations to avoid grate movement along the trench.
The PowerDrain S200K was the perfect solution for the Barbagallo Raceway due to its sturdy, well-crafted drainage system that ensures the racecourse stays dry and free from flooding.
