The Helensburgh wetland area is situated halfway between Wollongong and Sydney and aims to provide a place that is treasured by the community for the opportunities it provides for recreational experiences. The corridor landscaping and the adjoining subdivision aim to demonstrate best practice in ecological design as well as ensuring that the recreation provision is of the highest quality.
The landscaping works consist of street tree planting with tree guards, pathways, man-aged lawn areas for recreation, water bodies (which demonstrate industry best practice in water sensitive urban design principles), playgrounds, and structured planting. The landscape master plan provides for the active engagement of the parkland corridor by adjoining residents creating opportunities for passive recreation as well as creating an individual and spectacular sense of place.
The works were completed in November 2008.
