CONSTRUCTION AND LANDSCAPING OF NICHOLSON PARK PLAYGROUND

by Growth Civil Landscapes Pty Ltd

Nicholson Park in Woonona recently upgraded its construction, landscape and play equipment in a design that provides children the freedom to explore, imagine and partake in creative, active and social play.

The introduction of sandstone logs offer not only additional seating, but introduce a sophisticated natural material element to the playground, creating a seamless integration between the softfall, synthetic turf, concrete stencilling and path areas. The park furniture, play equipment, drinking fountain and water play area, together with the sandstone rock edging that doubles as stepping stones, completes this contemporary new playground.

Garden beds are strategically and purposefully placed throughout the park to soften the playground, and with the support of a hardwood log sleeper bridge, the natural is allowed to thrive in place of the manmade.

The construction works also included demolition of existing infrastructure. Together with excavation, earthworks, grading and levelling, concrete footings, paths, drainage and edges, and slabs for the furniture and drinking fountain. Softworks were also added, including trees (complete with tree guards), plants and turf.

These constructions, in addition to state of the art play equipment and a 30m flying fox, have brought new life back into this old park.
