COLOUR YOUR LANDSCAPE DESIGN
17 May 2018
With autumn officially here, herald the cooler weather with an array of autumnal colour from Andreasens Green. Fill your landscape design with a selection of trees that can handle the cold months ahead.
Andreasens Green have a range of trees to choose from that are bedecked with beautiful foliage, including Japanese Maples, Crepe Myrtles, Pyrus – Bradford, Chanitcleer or Capital, Pistacia chinensis, Liquidambar styraciflua and Golden ash.
Trees are vital for the environment; not only are they a source of food for birds and animals, but trees provide us with oxygen, store carbon, stabilise soil and provide us with shelter, shade and temperature regulation.
Trees used in parks, gardens, streetscapes and urban landscapes, despite their beauty, are often overlooked for their economic and environmental benefits as there is a greater need for housing, residential and commercial developments due to the ever-increasing population.
At a time of climate change, it is worrying that both private and public open spaces are threatened by urban renewal and development. This can result in a long-term risk for city sustainability. Insufficient open space for planting large trees provides fewer opportunities for vegetation to reduce wind speed, provide shade and reduce energy.
Landscapes that include trees help us to relax, lower our heart rates and reduce stress. Some ways that we can assist with our environment and long-term sustainability is to plant a garden with a range of trees, join a ‘Plant a Tree’ program with your organisation, or include indoor plants in your home, garden or office space.
