The TAFE NSW Landscaping Challenge had TAFE NSW apprentices building award winning garden displays showcased for the public at the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Now in its sixth year, the TAFE NSW Landscaping Challenge had TAFE NSW apprentices building award winning garden displays showcased for the public at the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The show gardens are located outside the Southee Pavilion on the corner of Showground Road and Grand Parade, which is located in the heart of the Sydney Olympic Park.
TAFE NSW appreciates and acknowledges the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of NSW for their continued support of the annual TAFE NSW Landscaping Challenge, as well as providing TAFE NSW with a range of opportunities to be on show. TAFE NSW highly values this partnership with the RAS and appreciates the possibilities that it provides to our staff and students.
2016 CONSTRUCTION AWARD
Following this year’s garden theme of Modern Australian Backyard the three competing teams were made up of students enrolled at each of the participating TAFE NSW Institutes.
Three leading landscape industry judges assessed and awarded the construction of the show gardens on the opening day of the Easter Show with the following results:
- 1st - Illawarra Institute | Yallah Campus
- 2nd - South Western Sydney Institute | Padstow College
- 3rd - Western Sydney Institute | Richmond College
2016 PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
The South Western Sydney Institute, Padstow College show garden was awarded the winner of the TAFE NSW Landscape Challenge People’s Choice Award, following the results of onsite voting at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
TAFE NSW will donate $10,000 towards a backyard blitz garden style makeover to the Vinnie’s facility of St Jude’s Men’s Centre at Bankstown, which is proposed to be completed by South Western Sydney Institute, Padstow College landscaping students later this year.
The garden makeover is proposed to take place as part of National Skills Week scheduled from Monday August 29 to Sunday 4 September 2016.
