Christmas came early for NGINA and its members, with its Christmas party and Awards Spectacular held last week in Sydney.
A fabulous night was had by all, thanks to the efforts of the NGINA team, MC Costa Georgiadis and entertainment by Adam Scicluna and his 4 piece band.
Some of the major awards presented on the night included:
David Cliffe - Life Member
David Cliffe - Tubestock Growers Perpetual Award
For someone who has achieved so much it is odd that David Cliffe has never officially received state recognition for a multitude of achievements. If anything its probably because he flew above the radar where his accomplishments provided benefits at a national level for the good of all. This is not to take away his grass roots participation where he has made a significant contribution to propagation practices and been happy to share his knowledge. It is also a credit to David that he still represents the industry on the Horticulture Australia Limited Board.
Judy Horton - Award Of Merit
There are a select minority of people in the industry who passionately spread the horticultural gospel and never miss an opportunity to do so, Judy does this better than most. Above all she delivers her message firmly, but with a smile and a reason why. Judy has contributed to promoting the industry across all media for many years and long may she continue to do so.
Costa Georgiadis - Allan Seale Award
With Costas mantra being so much in tune with the benefits of gardening promoted by the Nursery and Garden industry, it would be hard to find a better candidate for this award. Costas gardening, unlike many other garden experts always starts below the ground and works up to the tasty bits. Looking after the soil first ensures the rest will follow and the world will surely be a better place.
Noel Deakin - Outstanding Service to a Region or Special Interest Group
Organising the Growers and Suppliers group is not always an easy task. To make it work requires dedication, persistence, a calm hand and a balanced view of the industry. Noel Deakin provides all of these attributes and has used them to steer the amalgamation of the Growers and Allied Groups to a more meaningful and worthy group.
