ODS WELCOMES NIPA

01 Oct 2010

Outdoor Design Source is pleased to welcome the National Interior Plantscape Association (NIPA) to the 2011 Directory - ODS Ad sales closing now.

Outdoor Design Source is pleased to welcome the National Interior Plantscape Association (NIPA) to the 2011 Directory -  ODS Ad sales closing now.

NIPA began in 2001 when individual State Associations for Interior Plantscapers amalgamated. NIPA promotes the use of plants in public, commercial and residential spaces to filter the air, increase the level of worker productivity, sales and tenant retention and to enhance the beauty of the indoor environment. NIPA can assist government and business with internal plantscape design and specifications for the correct plant species.

NIPA aims to:
• Actively promote indoor plant-hire;
• Encourage continual professional development within the industry;
• Co-ordinate and increase membership;
• Provide a forum for communication within the industry.

In the early 1970’s the NASA Space Centre identified 107 volatile and potentially dangerous gases in the space flights. Since that time, NASA and other research has shown that “plant leaves, roots and soil bacteria can dramatically reduce levels of toxic vapours.” In a similar way to the space shuttle, Australian buildings retain toxic gases. The result is polluted indoor air. NASA tests reveal that indoor plants - living green plants clean pollutants from the air.

Since 2007, NIPA has supported Australian research projects, through the University of Technology Sydney, advancing scientific evidence that live indoor plants clean the air and benefit human health and wellbeing. Live plants look better, cost less and quietly purify and revitalise the air. The bottom line – live plants purify the air, ornaments and fake plants pollute our air.

NIPA is strongly aligned with other interior green organisations. It abides by established aims and direction, Code of Ethics and NIPA Constitution for all members. They have a published set of Maintenance Standards for Indoor Plants, Containers and Growing Media. NIPA is an industry peak body providing targeted benefits and outcomes to its membership base.

In line with NIPA’s support, ODS is introducing a new chapter - Interior Plantscape within the upcoming edition, which will be available next February 2011.

For more information about NIPA email thepresident@nipa.asn.au or call 07 38802293.
