LOGAN AND GOLD COAST FASTER RAIL PROJECT SPEEDS AHEAD
30 Apr 2025
To support the growing population and train patronage demand between Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has announced the Logan and Gold Coast (LGC) Faster Rail project.

Having undergone significant population growth over the past two decades, South East Queensland is expected to continue to expand with an extra 1.2 million people living in the region by 2036. The LGC Project will support this growth by doubling the number of rail tracks and upgrading stations between Kuraby and Beenleigh. This capacity increase will allow more frequent train services.
The additional train services have also been designed to address the high growth in travel demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and is a key investment to support the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The $5.75 billion project will double the capacity of the Gold Coast rail line and reduce waiting times at stations between Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast. The project will also upgrade stations to improve accessibility, remove five level crossings, improve park ‘n’ ride facilities, and provide a new continuous active travel path connecting to stations along the 20-kilometre project corridor.
In a step forward in the development, the design and pre-construction contract for the main works package has been awarded. Hassell will lead the design of stations from Kuraby until Beenleigh, including Trinder Park, Woodridge, Kingston, Bethania, Edens Landing and Holmview — with architecture, urban design and landscape architecture forming the customer experience and public realm strategy.
According to the firm’s communique, the project is “a vital artery supporting the future of SEQ and will catalyse sustainable growth opportunities across the region. It will be a significant opportunity to unite people and their communities, while honouring the unique qualities of our environment and region.”
The winning alliance, named the ActivUs Alliance, comprises Acciona, CPB Contractors, UGL Engineering, SMEC Australia and WSP Australia. According to Hassell’s media release, the alliance will work in partnership with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail to progress design and project planning activities and undertake further site investigations.
The project is considered a vital artery supporting the future of SEQ and will catalyse sustainable growth opportunities across the region. It will be a significant opportunity to unite people and their communities, while honouring the unique qualities of our environment and region.
