ACO offers two solutions in the StormBrixx® range: StormBrixx® SD (standard duty) and StormBrixx® HD (heavy duty). Both are extremely versatile and are suitable for all industrial, commercial and residential applications as a standalone solution or as part of a Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) scheme.
ACO StormBrixx® is a system that consists of a single, recyclable, polypropylene body that can be assembled in a variety of ways to form an open bonded structure. Plastic geocellular systems are a widely accepted method for storing stormwater but are limited in their accessibility options for ongoing maintenance. In order to solve this issue and enable ease of maintenance, ACO StormBrixx® was developed to provide 3D access for inspection and maintenance while retaining its structural integrity under load.
The StormBrixx® system offers a huge range of benefits for public space applications. It is an environmentally efficient solution, with minimised carbon emissions throughout manufacture, transportation and onsite assembly.
Additional benefits include:
- Brick bonded and cross bonding connection for optimal stability
- Sediment bay and silt trap options for silt management
- Maintenance access and 3D inspection access to tank interior
- High void ratio minimises excavation volume
- Fully certified performance
- Manufactured from recyclable polypropylene
With sustainable surface water management becoming an integral part of most major planning applications, consideration should be given to the management of both the quantity and quality of offsite water discharging, along with ongoing maintainability.
Applications for ACO StormBrixx® include:
- Car parks
- Educational facilities
- Housing developments
- WSUD schemes
To design and install ACO StormBrixx®, specifiers need to consider three factors: hydraulic design, structural design and maintenance.

CASE STUDY
ACO StormBrixx® was recently installed as part of a carpark upgrade for the University of Canberra Hospital. The designers were instructed to incorporate an economical stormwater management system to capture the runoff from the carpark pavement. The stormwater management system required an infiltration system and a detention system to spread the peak flow of water over a longer period of time, mitigating any surge effect downstream. The system also needed to be easily accessible for inspection, maintenance and cleaning procedures.
The ultimate solution was ACO StormBrixx® HS geocellular stormwater management system, which offers brick and cross bonding for strength and durability, an open cell structures that enables ease of access and a clear path for inspection cameras, and a stackable design for easy delivery and installation.
