FLOATING HOTELS FOR FIFA 2022
18 Mar 2020
Sixteen floating hotels are being developed by ADMARES and Sigge Architects near the Lusail International Stadium in Qatar to serve tourists and competitors during the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The hotels are located on Qetaifan Island North in proximity to Lusail International Stadium, which will host the opening and final games of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Expecting a huge crowd of people, the Qetaifan Island North – the city’s main waterfront destination – is planned in order to provide “all the needs of the masses and tourists; with projects, facilities, and entertainment activities in addition to the fan villages during the tournament, which will include the floating hotels”. The hosting island spans approximately 1.3 million square metres with 830,000 square metres of attractions and seven beaches. With minimum ecological impact, the floating hotels are a sustainable solution to accommodate a large number of people.
Creating new valuable real estate on water, ADMARES generates innovative floating or pile-supported structures. The real estate company has teamed up with Finnish architect firm, Sigge Architects to design the floating urban development. The 16 identical floating hotels take on a unique design at 72-metres-long and 16-metres-wide. Consisting of 101 guest rooms, a restaurant, and a lounge bar, the four-storey hotels will offer a total of 1616 floating hotel rooms.
“This is the first time that pure floating real estate has been used as a temporary solution for accommodation needs at this scale,” said Mikael Hedberg, CEO of ADMARES. “These hotels do not require major ports and deep water as their draft is significantly less than large cruise ships. After the World Cup, the hotels can be placed at any coastal location where the water is at least four metres deep. We are excited to be part of the solution for the amount of accommodation needed for the FIFA World Cup 2022.”
