EDGY AND SUSTAINABLE

The philosophy of Ocean Road Landscaping is based on producing high quality, sustainable gardens that work in with the local landscape.
Modest or multi-million dollar, the projects by Ocean Road Landscaping (ORL) sit fabulously in their settings. As Peter Shaw explains, ORL’s philosophy is based around producing high quality, sustainable gardens that work in with the local landscape. Like the recently completed Wilkinson Falk Architects-designed home overlooking the main beach at Anglesea – “a unique house for that strip... a bit different and well thought through. Connecting it with the coastal heath it overlooks was the obvious decision.”
This garden is moulded into the existing landscape – it’s certainly not suburban. “The clients were fantastic – very open to our ideas – which made it easy to produce one of those jobs you feel proud of.” Appropriately sourced shell grit and stone is set against the building’s soon-to-silver-decking. A suite of coastal plant species pull it all together with edgy style. In time, the garden and its broader setting will blur, but maintained by its creators, will always retain its punchy design.
Back in 1995, ORL was a two-man operation based in and around Victoria’s surf coast. Being good at what you do tends to have a spin off, and ORL is now significantly bigger and broader, being based on a flexible team. Some projects are designed in-house, others in collaboration with other designers and landscape architects such as Sinatra Murphy and Facet Design.
