CHRISTIE BARBEQUES 'KID SAFE'

24 Jun 2015

With a long list of safety features, the Christie Parksafe Modular Series is proud to be the world’s most ‘kid safe’ communal barbecue system.

Brooks Reach is a residential community development near Dapto.  At its heart is Emu Park, a play space designed and constructed by Simpson Landscapes of Kirrawee that provides games and outdoor recreation for all ages, with special emphasis on the needs of young children.

The main objective of any play space for children is to encourage them to be active and fully engaged with the equipment provided.  So it’s not always easy for them to quickly determine which piece of equipment is safe for them to play with and which is not.  That means every piece of equipment must be as safe as it can possibly be, which is why the Christie Parksafe Modular Series with its unrivalled range of exclusive safety features was the obvious barbecue choice for Emu Park.

Every Christie Parksafe benchtop is at least 900mm above the ground and, in fully supervised locations, can be fitted with an optional insulated lid to cover the plate after use.  Around every hotplate there is a minimum 100mm protection zone.  If a small hand reaches up onto the bench it shouldn’t touch anything hot.  And, at a child’s eye level, there are warning signs on all sides of the barbecue.

Children like to explore everything, so Christie Parksafe barbecues are designed without protrusions or ledges that might encourage climbing.  Little ones also get excited and like to run about without much care, so to avoid head-high collisions Christie Parksafe bench tops do not protrude passed the body of the barbecue.  Even the corners are rounded and have polycarbonate inserts to soften any accidental impact.

The actual cooking surface sits in a raised hob that elevates and isolates it from the bench.  This stops heat being transferred to the bench top. It also allows heat inside the cabinet to escape, keeping the bench cool.

Controls are located above the benchtop, not down at knee height.  This patented feature not only makes them easier to see and use, it also places them out of the reach of children.  To ensure that children don’t turn the barbecue on, Christie developed a 6 second safety delay mechanism.  The start button must be depressed and then held down for a full six seconds before the unit will turn on.  There is also an audible signal alert whenever there is a change in operating mode.

All these exclusive safety features, plus many more, combine to make the Christie Parksafe barbecue the world’s most ‘kid safe’ communal barbecue system.
