Booran Reserve Park’s recent transformation not only included the best playground Melbourne has to offer, but also features one of the leading park barbecue solutions in the region. Christie’s patented Modular park barbecues offer the best in contemporary outdoor cooking technology that ensures visitor’s experience a safe and reliable product each and every time.
The former urban reservoir at Booran Reserve Park, Glen Huntly, has been transformed into what has been dubbed “Melbourne’s best playground”. The contemporary design of the playspace by ACLA Consultants incorporates active sport and playing areas, ample green spaces and shady areas for relaxation and picnics.
Drawing from the past life of the reservoir, ACLA used the theme of water to create the playground and associated spaces. Construction of the project was awarded to the dynamic Melbourne-based construction company, 2 Construct, and together the two companies created a public area that uses touch, smell, sight and sound to bring the old reservoir back to life.
While the playspace features a giant bird’s nest, dual flying fox, custom-made play equipment and Australia’s first double-dome climbing net, the designers have also ensured that a broad range of amenities are available for the whole community to enjoy.
The large green spaces and shady areas available for community relaxation and family picnics, feature a Christie Modular park barbecue in a stainless-steel finish, with two barbecue cooktops and bench space for food preparation. The aesthetics of the all-stainless barbecue underneath an eye-catching custom shelter meets the project’s vison of a contemporary, inclusive public space.
Christie’s patented Modular park barbecues offer an ideal solution for most public open spaces, including playgrounds and other community environments. Launched more than two decades ago, they remain the first choice for architects and developers, due to their proven reliability, emphasis on safety, hygiene, ease-of-use and market-leading cooking performance.

At the core of all Christie barbecues is their latest award-wining CC2 gas and electric cooktops. The culmination of more than 50 years of product development and an unwavering dedication to safety and reliability, they contain many features developed exclusively by Christie, including a sterilisation cycle, pre-set temperature and cooking times, and delayed start function for added peace of mind.
