From 52 shortlisted entries, 10 received awards and commendations for the 2019 Australian Urban Design Awards across categories for built projects in addition to leadership, advocacy and research.
The awards were announced in Melbourne on 30 October 2019.
“At a time when the ‘wicked problems’ confronting our urban environments and the communities they support are dramatically rising, this year’s award winners are proof-positive that Australia’s urban designers are equal to that challenge,” explained Malcolm Snow, jury chair and CEO of the City Renewal Authority in Canberra.
“All of the winning projects unequivocally demonstrate that their designers and clients have both the insight and skills to make places that are beautiful, welcoming and sustainable. In their different contexts, they all put people and the quality of the place experience at the centre of their design research or solutions. This is a hallmark of outstanding urban design ensuring that both current and future generations of Australians are the beneficiaries.”
