2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the Australian Timber Design Awards, hosted by the Timber Development Association NSW (TDA).
2009 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Australian Timber Design Awards, Australasia’s most recognised stamp of excellence in timber design. Hosted by the Timber Development Association NSW (TDA), the national competition is designed to promote and encourage outstanding timber design in the built environment professions.
Distinguished by a proud heritage of innovation and achievement, the awards aim to develop a timber design ethos through the encouragement and showcasing of superlative timber design in a variety of applications. A broad range of entry categories demonstrates the diversity of timber and permits recognition of achievement in a variety of areas.
This year’s competition is expected to be the biggest yet, with the list of entry categories larger than ever. Competition for the various awards has grown significantly that for the first time ever, there will be presentation nights in several cities.
2009 also marks the introduction of 4 Regional Awards:
Western Region
Western Australia and South Australia
Southern Region
Victoria and Tasmania
Eastern Region
New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory
Northern Region
Queensland and Northern Territory
There will be awards for each category in every region and an overall regional award. The winners of the overall award will go on to compete for the National award.
The regional awards will be presented to the winners at an evening in each region in October. The National award will be announced in November.
The Australian Timber Design Awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers and landscapers – anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber. A separate section in the residential category is available to students and entrants aged 30 or under.

The Australian Timber Design Awards encourage entries that showcase the beautiful, strong and environmentally friendly properties of timber. Categories recognise outstanding use of timber in residential buildings and public or commercial buildings.
