SYDNEY PARK’S NEW NEIGHBOUR

Approval has been granted for HPG Australia’s mixed-use development in Alexandria, Sydney. The development will include several greenspaces, public realm and entertainment features that enhance the surrounding Sydney Park.
HPG Australia (HPG) has received development application approval for its yet to be named, mixed-use development in Alexandria. The new development is set to become a cultural hub for the area with the inclusion of public art, lively retail zones, green spaces and common areas alongside the developments retail and residential quarters.
Originally purchased in February 2015, HPG Australia hopes to develop the 2.1-hectare site that currently houses a 7,000-square-metre empty warehouse space. Within this area, eight six-storey buildings will be constructed to house approximately 400 dwellings; residences will include a range of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, terraces with private internal access as well as penthouses.
The development will aim to complement the surrounding 44-hectare public parkland, which is an inner-city favourite for families, pet owners, outdoor fitness goers and cyclists. The recent regeneration program of Sydney Park provided the area with grass expanses, landscaped gardens, BBQ facilities, large playground facilities, and meandering pathways that will serve to enhance the green space offerings in the HPG Australia development.
HPG Managing Director Dr Adrian Liu explains that: “This development will instantly become its own community hub and urban village. Apartments will enjoy views of the Sydney CBD, Botany Bay and west to the Blue Mountains which can never be built out due to the project’s private parkland location.
“What’s more, the entire development precinct will embrace a strong arts and design focus at its heart, which will underpin all aspects of the precinct and include a vibrant and robust cultural events and sponsorship program, commencing with our partnership with the Sydney Fringe Festival.”
Additionally, the project will include 8800 square metres of open public space as an extension of the parkland. This green space will be designed to ensure the park integrates well with the built form and will be served by the existing connections to public transport and soon to be completed West Connex roadway.
It is estimated that construction will commence early 2018.
