SELF WATERING TREE PITS
11 Aug 2011
Introducing our innovative new tree planting system-direct storm water run-off to the base of trees and beautify your streetscape.
Communities around Australia have identified a public desire for more trees, more sustainable solutions and – specifically – water sensitive urban designs. Of course, fulfilling community desires while maintaining a practical approach to high-traffic streets is challenging. But – it can be done.
Terra Firma Industries recently partnered with the City of Yarra to pioneer an innovative newtree planting system that has:
• Vastly improved the streetscape aesthetic of Smith Street, Collingwood;
• Harnessed stormwater runoff for fully sustainable tree watering;
• Improved the quality of water entering the stormwater system; and
• Significantly decreased the volume of gross pollutants entering vulnerable waterways.
Residents and local business owners have hailed the greening of Smith St a major success. The project has been nominated as a finalist in theKeep Australia Beautiful – 2011 Sustainable Cities award (Water Conservation category).
