In 2010 we celebrate our 10th year of operating an association in NSW providing education, networking and support to greenkeepers of sports surfaces.
2010 is a big year of events for STA NSW. We hit the year off with our annual Golf Day in March at Strathfield Golf Course, this was followed by our involvement in the Turf 10 Conference in April at Hawkesbury Race Track and we have just come back from the AGCSA Gold Coast Conference where we assisted with presentations for the Sportsfield Stream. On July 6 we held a Workshop on Irrigation and Sport Turf Management at Ryde TAFE and we are now full steam ahead for our final 3 events for the year.
The annual Regional Sports Turf Seminar at Kurri Kurri TAFE will be held on Tuesday, August 17, which is always a great day mixing both presentations with machinery demonstrations. This will be followed by a new event for STA, a two-day hands-on Cricket Wicket Seminar at Blacktown Olympic Park. This event will be a very unique one for the industry as it not only includes presentations but hands-on wicket and outfield preparation lead by Les Burdett, recently retired from Adelaide Oval after 41 years. Delegates will be able to get all the tips of the trade from undoubtedly one of the best in the industry. In addition to Les’ expertise, delegates will also have an opportunity to learn from Ricky Aiken from the Hong Kong Cricket Club. The event will also include trade exhibition and machinery demonstrations. Blacktown Olympic Park is the home of Cricket NSW and offers full sized practice wickets of which Les will demonstrate preparation practices and show wickets in various stages of leading up to game day. If you manage or maintain a cricket wicket you don’t want to miss this event.
Finally we will wrap up the year with our annual Sportsman’s Charity Luncheon on November 12. The 10-year celebrations will be in full swing for this event.
