OUTDOOR TIMBER AWARDS
01 Jun 2010
Following the success of the 10th anniversary year in 2009, the Australian Timber Design Awards committee has decided to continue the presentation of Regional Awards.
Following the great success of the 10th anniversary year in 2009, the Australian Timber Design Awards organising committee have decided to continue the presentation of Regional Awards within the program. Regional Awards will be available for all seven Primary Entry categories, along with an overall Regional winner.
Outdoor Timber is one of those “Primary Entry categories” and therefore awards will be available in all four regional areas with presentations to be made in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in early October.
Outdoor Timber is one of the categories that has been included in all previous years and is for stand-alone structures such as sheds and out buildings, landscapes, boardwalks, decks and bridges - anything that is not part of another building.
A project such as a new deck attached to a Residential Class 1 project, which substantially alters the use of the existing dwelling, could be considered for Best Renovation, not as an Outdoor Timber entry. Whereas an unattached pergola or gazebo which includes an elevated deck and is demonstrably a stand-alone project, would qualify in this category.
Previous winners have been structures such as the Granite Island Boardwalk, the Chain Valley Bay Suspension Bridge & Boardwalks, the Seaford Life Saving Club’s clubhouse and last year’s winner the Turruwul Park Kiosk and Change Rooms.
An entry in Outdoor Timber also provides the opportunity to enter into a range of Product Categories where the species and application are appropriate. Categories such as Best Use of:
-Solid Timber Cladding
-Timber as a Structural Element
-Australian Certified Timber
-Recycled Timber
And of course the national Outdoor Timber winner will also be in contention for the overall Australian Timber Design Award.
The national winners will be announced at a Gala timber industry dinner to be held at Sydney’s Luna Park, in the Crystal Palace Room, on October 29, with the popular comedian Vince Sorrenti as MC.
