Nursery Traders were given a green thumbs up when they received Brisbane’s ‘Energex Award for Sustainability in Business' at the Lord Mayor's Business Awards.
The prestigious awards were announced by Lord Mayor Campbell Newman at a glittering annual Gala Dinner, held in the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 15th October.
The ‘Energex Award for Sustainablity in Business’ judging panel consisted of Terry Effeney, CEO at Energex, Peter Hyland, Regional Director at Urbis, Mara Bun, CEO at Green Cross Australia and Jim Reeves, General Manager at Institute for Sustainable Resources. The judges paid tribute to Nursery Traders for its significant investment in water sustainability and developing best practices in the landscape industry.
Accepting the ‘Sustainability in Business Award’ from Lord Mayor Campbell Newman was Tim Bunker, Managing Director of Nursery Traders. Tim said Nursery Traders entered the Lord Mayor's Business Awards - Sustainability in Business category to highlight the company’s goal of total water self-sufficiency.
"It's immensely rewarding for all of us to see Nursery Trader's investment recognised, and have our green business commitment endorsed by the Brisbane City Council," Tim said.
Nursery Traders is an innovative wholesale landscape supply company providing direct supply service and cash’n’carry trade market, creating a single point of contact between wholesale nurseries and producers of horticultural products to Australia's retail nursery, landscaping and development industries.
The highlight of Nursery traders year 2009/2010 was implementing Stage 5 Water recycling which brought them to the verge of their water self-sufficiency goal - and commissioning benchmark solar power generation infrastructure.
“Continuous improvement is at the core of our business,” Tim explained. “We are firmly focused on delivering exceptional products and customer service and on building partnerships with our suppliers to grow their businesses."
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said the key strengths of Brisbane's economy are its diversity, innovation and creativity and the Award winners possess these attributes.
"I would like to congratulate Nursery Traders for its significant investment in sustainable best practices and providing inspiration to other Brisbane businesses,” Cr Newman said.
The Sustainability in Business is one of 10 categories in the LMBA program, including seven for businesses, two for individuals and one overall winner. Previous winners have included Hassell (2009) and Arup (2008).
"The 10 winners have been recognised not only for their outstanding contributions to the growth of Brisbane's economy, but also for their ability to enable innovation, create and attract talent, and connect to the national and international marketplace," Cr Newman commented.
