The 2009 Green Roofs Conference will be held September 23 – 25 at the University of Melbourne, Burnley Campus.
Presented by Green Roofs Australia, the conference will provide delegates, speakers, exhibitors and sponsors with a unique opportunity to share, learn, network and have fun while being a part of a new and exciting industry - a new living architecture that integrates the living and non-living into restorative and healing buildings.
The rapidly growing green roofs and walls industry is providing a realistic and tangible response to the climate change challenges many cities are currently faced with.
Green roofs and walls can make a unique contribution to the quality of our urban environment. Few technologies have ever had so much to offer by way of improving the health and wellbeing of urban residents, while contributing to the development of restorative, high performance buildings.
The Green Roofs Conference will commence with an opening address by Sidonie Carpenter, President of Green Roofs Australia. It will also feature a keynote presentation by Nigel Dunnett, Director of The Green Roof Centre, Department of Landscape, University of Sheffield UK. Other speakers include: Graeme Hopkins, Principle Urban Designer (Metro) Planning SA; Jeff Lugg, Head Curator, Adelaide Zoo; Amy Reed, Architect, Hassell; Penelope Smith, Horticulturist, The Hills Bark Blower; Graham Cleary, Owner, Natural Habitat NZ; Ralph Webster, Senior Architect and Urban Designer, City of Melbourne; and Dr Nick Williams, Plant Ecologist, University of Melbourne.
Green Roofs Australia’s mission is to increase the awareness of the economic, social and environmental benefits of green roof and wall infrastructure, and to advance and support its growth by the sharing of ideas and knowledge via research, development and education.

Green Roofs Australia to host Cities Alive Congress in Brisbane 2012
Green Roofs Australia has been awarded $110,000 to organise the Cities Alive Green Infrastructure Congress in Brisbane in 2012.
Scheduled to take place in Brisbane, October 17 – 20, 2012, the Cities Alive Green Infrastructure Congress is expected to attract an estimated 2,500 people, and at least 150 display stands.
The organising funds have been provided by Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Marketing.
Since 2007, Green Roofs Australia has been trying to show Australians the success Europe and North America have had over the last 30 years with the integration of green roofs and green walls in urban building designs.
The 2012 Cities Alive Congress will be a showcase for the myriad of design ideas and the merging of allied technologies, such as better water management and the improved use of solar power.
The Cities Alive Congress will be organised by Green Roofs Australia under license from the 11-member World Green Roof Infrastructure Network, based in Toronto, Canada. Australia is one of six founding member nations.
The first Cities Alive Congress will take place in October 2009 in Toronto Canada; the second congress will be in Mexico City, October 2010. Others are expected to occur in Asian cities where green roofs and walls and allied technologies are now advancing rapidly.
