GlassSandâ„¢ is the recycled solution to your asphalt, concrete and pipe embedment needs. A minus 4.75mm sand, it is produced by processing recycled glass waste that is normally destined for landfill.
GlassSand™ is the recycled solution to your asphalt, concrete and pipe embedment needs. It is a minus 4.75mm sand produced by processing recycled glass waste that is normally destined for Landfill. GlassSand™ comprises of well graded, angular, hard, durable inert particles which allow for excellent compaction and drainage characteristics.
Glass Granulates is a recycling business with operations at Moorebank, Laverton and Onehunga NZ. These operations process glass fines previously destined for landfill into GlassSand™ for reuse in many applications. Last financial year alone, we diverted a total of 30 432m3 into saleable product for use in the Greater Sydney Region. That’s a total of more than 9 Olympic swimming pools!
Current applications:
Asphalt
GlassSand™ has gained acceptance by the relative authorities along with the major producers of Asphalt for road construction. This blended asphalt product delivers some excellent technical properties along with substantial environmental and cost benefits. Conforming to the RTA276 specification, other technical benefits include excellent reflective and structural properties.
Concrete
Extensive testing carried out in relation to the Alkali Silica Reactivity (ASR) issue has now determined that GlassSand™ can be utilised in conjunction with fly ash without fear of Alkali Silica Reactivity, tests have also indicated that the material can noticeably improve the durability of the concrete due to its positive effect on the mix in terms of chloride absorption.
Pipe embedment
Produced to conform to the EPS100 pipe embedment specification and various industry bedding sand specifications GlassSand™ can be utilised as a blend component with natural sand or utilised on its own.Safe, easy to work with and easily compacted in the trench due to the grading and angular particle shape.
