ENTRIES NOW OPEN FOR TIMBER AWARDS
01 May 2010
The Australian Timber Design Awards (ATDA) is the only truly national competition which promotes and encourages outstanding timber design in the built environment.
The Australian Timber Design Awards (ATDA) is the only truly national competition which promotes and encourages outstanding timber design in the built environment, and has a proud heritage of awarding and recognising the unique and thoughtful structures that work with the landscape to create attractive outdoor spaces.
One of the Primary Entry categories, Outdoor Timber, has been part of the competition since its inception and is specifically positioned to recognise stand-alone structures. The examples used in the conditions of entry as complying projects are: sheds; boardwalks; decks; bridges; and the like but entry is not limited to these types of structures - so long as the project is demonstrably a stand-alone object and predominately made of timber it would be suitable.
In recent years the competition has featured such outdoor projects as Permanent Camping by Casey Brown Architecture, an innovative approach to an old concept; the Berrinba Wetlands, entered by Outdoor Timber Structures of Gatton, Queensland, which included bridges and viewing platforms; and from the Sydney arm of Hassell Architects, Wentworth Common, which is an extension of the Olympic Park precinct at Homebush, and is again a selection of structures and spaces which allows public access to a unique wetland wildlife habitat in the centre of our largest city.
When you consider the very unique Tree of Knowledge Memorial that was the overall winner of the 2009 competition and these examples of entries from previous years, the ATDA gives acknowledgement and reward to projects that interact with our everyday lives, linking us creatively to the outdoors - entry in the Outdoors Timber category is limited only by those who fail to compete.
The Australian Timber Design Awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers, landscapers, and pool builders – basically anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber.
Outdoor Timber entrants are also eligible for the Rising Star Award, which is available to students and entrants aged 30 or under, as well as many of the Product Categories that include such options as Best Use of Australian Certified Timber, Best Use of Recycled Timber and Best Use of Timber as a Structural Element - categories where many outdoor projects have won over the 10 previous years of competition.
Entry to this year’s program is available through the website: www.timberawards.com.au with all entry conditions, payment options and requirements clearly set out. Once a completed entry form is submitted a return email will give the entrant access to the web uplift submission facility where all details can be simply loaded. The only additional requirement will be the supply of high res images which will need to be forwarded to the ATDA organising committee by USB or CD as soon as possible after the submission has been completed.
With 47 regional and national awards, plus the overall Australian Timber Design Award to be won and presentations to be made in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney the opportunity for built environment professions to participate is almost boundless.
Entries close July 16 so get yours in now.
