A TOP IDEA FOR TOPDRESSING
11 June 2014
Benedict has added another material to its product range with the release of ‘Turfloam’, a recycled alternative to topdressing.
For over the last 30 years, Benedict has taken great pride in supplying quality assured topdressing materials to our Local Government and Contractor clients.
Benedict offers a large range of washed sand, sand/soil and organic blends, including materials such as Medium and Fine Washed Sands, Organic Loamy Sands and the tried and tested 80/20 Sand and Soil Blend.
Recently we have also added another material to the product range, Benedict “Turfloam”– Washed 80/20 Recycled Topdressing.
Now before you click off this article in disgust that a supplier would have the audacity to claim a recycled product could be suitable for the very grounds that our kids slide, tackle and dive on, we would like to address the concerns you may have with the term “Recycled” in regards to topdressing materials.
ContaminationTurfloam uses a blend of quarried, VENM sand and Recycled Soil. These materials are blended together and then washed through a 2mm screen, to assure that there are NO ISSUES with contaminates such as glass and stone
ConsistencyAs Turfloam is a blended washed product we are able to provide a very consistent material. Turfloam has a high Hydraulic Conductivity and a low clay/silt fraction and is quality assured both externally (to AS4419) and internally by carrying out constant grading’s on site.
We understand the concerns about the term “recycled” when referring to topdressing materials, because when inappropriate recycled materials are used to topdress it often had disastrous results, followed by costly remediation efforts to remove unwanted contaminates from an oval's surface. Rest assured, Turfloam is 100% safe to topdress with its 2mm minus sizing and we guarantee every load we sell.
Mick Williams from Benedicts says “Turfloam offers our customers a sustainable, environmentally friendly topdressing option while also providing valuable cost savings in this very competitive topdressing market.”
The Quarried Washed 80/20 will still be available as it has always been through Benedict, but we are excited about offering Turfloam as an environmentally friendly, and sustainable option for the insatiable needs of the Sydney Topdressing Market. We think Turfloam is a top idea for topdressing, and hope you do too.
