A PLAYGROUND FOR ALL AT CANAL PARK
25 June 2014
Canal Park Playground features Proludic play equipment and is a great example of a playground where all children and families can enjoy playing together.
When designing a playground it is important to take into consideration the play needs of different ages and abilities of children. The playground at Canal Park in Potts Hills, NSW, is a great example of a multi-generational playground where all children can enjoy playing together.
Young children need properly scaled play equipment that suits their small size and takes into account their developmental needs. The Proludic play equipment in the younger children’s area at Canal Park offers a variety of graded physical challenges, and opportunities to play together with friends or alone if some ‘time out’ is needed. Inclusive Play sensory items in this area provide stimulating play opportunities for children of all abilities. The Viva Rubber wet pour safety surfacing allows easy access to the play equipment.
Older children are more physically adept and enjoy playing together in groups. The older children’s area at Canal Park has been designed to provide challenging and dynamic play activities. The Dynamo rotating Astro net and Proludic Ixo, Pod Swing and Double Spring Perch give older children lots of physical challenge. A gap in the lower part of the net of the Astro also allows access for children who require more support. The play units in the older children’s area bring opportunities for lots of movement, balance, exercise and fun.
The wet pour rubber surfacing design at Canal Park reflects the water theme of the former Sydney Water lands where the playground is located. Like a painting, the fluid rubber softfall shapes create a beautiful image of a river flowing and swirling. The Viva Rubber Safety Surfacing System allows access throughout the playground areas to everyone, including children or parents with mobility aids.
All the play equipment and the wet pour rubber surfacing at Canal Park have been provided by Viva Recreation, the NSW distributor of Proludic, Dynamo and Inclusive Play in NSW. The design of the playground was carried out by PLACE Design Group who has been very satisfied with the result of Canal Park playground:
"The relationship has been courteous and professional throughout the entire design and construction process. Overall we are very satisfied with the outcome and would recommend Viva for any future works."
