COUNCILS BENEFIT FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC FURNITURE

Parks and gardens around the country are finding that recycled plastic furniture provides the perfect long- lasting low maintenance solution to outdoor living.

Isaac Regional Council in Queensland has created a fun and vibrant atmosphere at many of its parks throughout the region using brightly coloured recycled plastic furniture. Not only does it look stunning, but according to Jarrod Bryant, Manager Landcare and Resource Recovery, the main reason the Council chose Replas was because of the “robust nature of the product to withstand vandalism, and the environmental benefits.”

Ross Wilkie, from the Tooradin Foreshore Committee said “prior to this we had older style wooden talks, so there is no comparison really, the Replas ones look much better, require almost no maintenance other than wiping clean and are much more OHS friendly.”

After installing a new custom designed picnic setting, Ross said “We get comments constantly from visitors and locals about how good the area looks now. We will continue using Replas products so we have a consistent look, but also because we are happy with the overall response from users and the way the areas now look”

Other than a concrete picnic shelter and toilet block there was little in the Willie Pye Teamsters Memorial Park in far North Queensland prior to the installation of Replas bollards and picnic settings. The popular roadside rest sport had no predefined areas for stopping and could be unsafe as vehicles spread through the park. Sean Cooper, Parks and Precincts Supervisor, Doulagas Shire Council, said “the park now has a set entry and exit point”, adding that it “provides a safe environment for travellers to rest up without the worries of cars impacting on their peace and quiet”
