FROM AWKWARD TO AWESOME

Nature Inspired Playgrounds’ ability to turn awkward spaces into fun and inventive playspaces is on full show in this imaginative treehouse created for Sandgate Primary School.
In business for over 30 years, Nature Inspired Playgrounds (NIP) has the imagination and know-how to create matchless play spaces with distinctive natural elements.
When asked to make the best use of dead space in a school or kindergarten that would otherwise go unused, NIP put their thinking caps on to come up with the best solution for those challenging spaces. Creating the right space for Sandgate Primary School in Brisbane, QLD, was one of those challenges.
On the grounds of Sandgate Primary sits a huge mango tree on an unwieldy slope. While the tree offers a great deal of shade, its sturdy root system and thick canopy means nothing grows beneath it, leaving the space barren and unusable. NIP’s solution – a treehouse!
Creating a treehouse high up in the mango tree not only reinvented the dead space, turning it into usable space with an incredible wow factor, it also provided students with unique play challenges.
Using a rope ladder, students can climb up and over the widespread branches of the old tree, then through a series of enclosed multilevel decks built around more tree branches to reach the enclosed tunnel slide. On the other end of the treehouse an enclosed net crawl tunnel leads to an independent deck with a curved climbing wall where twin knotted ropes aids descent.
A creative solution with a fantastic end result – much to the delight of Sandgate Primary School’s Principal and a horde of happy tree-climbing students.
