GREEN DECKING

by Trex

Australians are shunning timber decking in favour of hardwearing, eco-friendly capped composite decking from TREX.

The world’s number one decking brand, TREX arrived in Australia from the USA four years ago.

Since then sales have skyrocketed, with the wood-alternative promising to look good year after year, despite the harsh Australian summer sun.

“Made from 95 per cent recycled content, including recycled plastic as well as reclaimed wood and sawdust, a TREX deck does not deteriorate or age like a traditional timber deck,” says Bryan Fairbanks, director of international business development for Trex.

Perfect for sunny climates, TREX decking won’t warp, split, splinter, twist, rust, discolour or change in any way – a fact that’s backed by the brand’s 25-year Fade and Stain Warranty.

It is resistant to termites and is extremely low maintenance, as there’s no need to seal, oil or paint a TREX deck. A simple clean with soap and water is all that’s needed.

“Nobody wants to be a slave to their deck. They want to sit out and enjoy it this summer,” Fairbanks notes.

The secret to a TREX deck’s enduring, easy-care good looks is the proprietary capping that wraps around three sides of each decking board to give it a hard protective shell and natural, wood-like grain pattern.

“The protective shell is what makes all the difference between a capped composite and an uncapped composite board,” Fairbanks explains. “It’s what protects the board against fading, staining, scratching, rotting and warping.

“Even after decades of Australian summers, a TREX deck will look the same as the day it was installed thanks to the capping. An uncapped board might cost a little less, but it just won’t wear the same.”

Available in 10 nature-inspired colours, such as Lava Rock (a rich brown with reddish-black streaking), Spiced Rum (a warm, earthy umber), Tiki Torch (a variegated light brown) and Island Mist (a pristine grey), TREX decking offers enormous design flexibility. The boards are water resistant and pieces can be curved to sit around pools or garden features – or to create a unique design.

Today’s growing awareness of sustainable living principals also is prompting more homeowners to choose TREX eco-friendly composite decking over traditional timber.

“TREX prides itself on the fact that it has never chopped down a tree – ever – and that we’re recycling materials such as plastic shopping bags that would otherwise go to landfill,” Fairbanks adds.

TREX was launched more than 20 years ago in the USA and is recognised as the inventor of composite decking. Now the world leader in its field, the TREX brand is sold in 42 countries.
