CONTEMPORARY SCULPTURES (LARGE)

by Terrance Plowright

In addition to small contemporary sculptures, Terrance also designs and builds larger sculptures. Most of these have been the result of tenders or competitions he has been awarded, and many can be found in public places throughout Australia.

For example, his 4m high work, ‘Life Teeming/Life Teaming’, made with over 2000 pieces of stainless steel and incorporating LED lighting, is found at Bondi Junction in Sydney. Another example, ‘Wings of Spirit’, 6m high and weighing  4.5 tonnes, and  made of cast 316 stainless steel, is found at Twin Waters in Queensland.

Other than stainless steel, Terrance works with aluminum and, as with his small sculptures, he also enjoys using more modern materials.

In addition, he has been exploring the use of movement, light and sound with his works, and his interactive sound sculpture, Tubular Resonance, which won the 2013 McClelland Survey People’s Choice Award in Melbourne, and which has been purchased by the McClelland Gallery, is a prime example of this.

Others include ‘Nature’s Impresario’, a tribute to the Higgs Boson, and made of 180m of polished stainless steel tube, 5m high x 5m long, which was exhibited at Sculpture at Scenic World in 2013.

Terrance is currently working on a commission for a 50ft sculpture, celebrating 60,000 years of nationhood. He also takes private commissions.
