CITY OF DREAMS

City of Dreams Casino Resort, Taipa, Macau

Boasting leisure, entertainment and resort-style facilities, the City of Dreams is Macau’s newest and brightest destination

You have to visit the City of Dreams Casino Resort in Taipa, Macau to truly appreciate its dream-like ambience, sparkling at night like a thousand stars and boasting leisure, entertainment and resortstyle facilities. It’s clear to see why the City of Dreams complex with its three branded hotels is fast becoming the hub of Macau’s casino district.

Design Landscapes was engaged to undertake all external works associated with the entertainment and recreational facilities for the Crown Casino, Hard Rock Hotel and future serviced apartments, all of which are located on the third floor podium and covering an area of approximatley 35,000m2. The project was completed in June 2009.

“The brief was to construct resort-style recreational environments with materials and finishes fitting for five- and six-star hotels," says Michael Platt from Design Landscapes.

Each hotel had its own dedicated section of the podium, in which its leisure and entertainment facilities were created including large scale swimming pools, a swim-up pool bar, dining areas, private cabanas, a beach volleyball court and sand lounge area, and changing rooms combined with toilet facilities.

The central feature for each of the hotels is a wet-edge swimming pool, each of which covers approximatley 600m2 and is internally finished with glass mosaic tiling and edged with granite coping and channel covers. The pool surrounds and expansive podium paving areas cover more than 7500m2 are finished in a blend of granite, slate, quartz and Solohoffen stone.

Spaced throughout the podium are additional features including separate spas and associated water features; a pool bar consisting of steel and stone clad columns, rolled steel facade and stainless steel benchtops; private self contained cabanas with private dining facilities, plasma TV and fridge and finsihed with stone faced walls, timber decking and white draped covers.

The project utilised materials from all over the world including more than 3700m2 of granite and slate, and 650m2 of quartz, all sourced from China and used for paving, planter wall facing and coping; 900m2 of Solohoffen stone from Germany, 5000 tonnes of crushed granite in various colours, which was laid out in patterns to cover 22,000m2 for viewing from the hotel rooms, 300m2 of timber decking, yellow onyx feature panels for lighting effects at night, stainless steel handrails, steel fabricated frames for cabanas; furniture; timber deck sub-frame and security fencing and gates.

The City of Dreams Casino Resort combines world class quality construction with sleek contemporary designs and materials. And although the complex is still young, it’s already establishing itself as one of Macau’s shining stars.
