Industry Association: Sustainable Business Australia (SBA)
Association Profile
Sustainable Business Australia (SBA) is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation which has no political ties. Funding is derived from membership subscriptions and from staged events and conferences.
SBA is the peak body in Australia for the low carbon and environmental goods and services sector. The organisation is also a think tank focusing on ‘new markets, new industries and new jobs’.
A large part of SBA’s work involves raising awareness about the scale and relevance of major environmental challenges and the commercial solutions that business and industry can provide. SBA represents a rapidly growing coalition of members who will be the backbone of the next era of wealth generation by providing commercial solutions to environmental challenges. Therefore we invest our time and resources in providing far-reaching policy recommendations.
SBA’s membership is drawn from many sectors and includes investors, bankers, technology and infrastructure developers, consultancy and engineering companies involved in all areas of the economy.
SBA is a great organisation to belong to. We are active in many areas - none of which is more important at the moment than climate change which is increasingly acknowledged as the single biggest threat to our quality of life, productivity and economy. SBA will continue to push for Australia to be at the forefront of action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for commercial as well as environmental reasons. We argue for carbon emissions trading because it is a key catalyst for smart and efficient technologies and management systems. We also support competition policy reform and the concept of a government ‘enabling framework’ to help fast-track industry’s innovation. Land, water, sustainable cities, and environmental markets are other issues that are of course also high on our agenda.
Our activities and member services are extensive and we work closely with our member companies to get solutions into the marketplace. As well as policy recommendations, we provide technical advice to government and industry and we stage high level conferences, numerous networking events and provide a regular news and intelligence service.
We are a small organisation and we recognise that there are other bodies providing business services, the focus at SBA is on policy development, market shaping, and providing outstanding conferences and forums. We try to be a ‘one stop shop’ for our members for all issues regarding business and environmental sustainability.
Membership
There are eight categories of membership and companies can apply for membership by completing a membership application form. SBA accepts applications from a broad range of sectors and interests who support SBA’s objectives. All SBA member companies have the opportunity to participate in, and contribute to, its advocacy work, shaping policy, building markets and promoting commercial solutions to environmental challenges, in a variety of ways.
