Industry Association: Queensland Arboricultural Association (QAA)

Association Profile

The Queensland Arboricultural Association (QAA) was founded in 1992 to help promote and develop the tree care industry in Queensland and Northern NSW. 2012 is the 20th anniversary of the QAA’s formation. We aim to raise member and public awareness through education, training, and events and by encouraging compliance with Industry Best Practice.

Membership

Today, the QAA is the Arboricultural Industry’s leading body in Queensland, and we continue to strive to achieve our goals. To this end, we have recently introduced a new category of Membership for Qualified Members, and a Register of Qualified Arboricultural Contractors and Consultants. The Register is a response to ongoing demand from the general public, local and state government and other stakeholders who were finding it frustrating to locate qualified, insured and experienced operators using the traditional methods of employing tradespeople (e.g. Yellow Pages/web search etc).

The Register is made up of Contractors and Consultants who have met criteria set by the QAA in consultation with local and state government. Those using the Register can be assured that all of the participants are Qualified (AQF Certificate 5 in Arboriculture for Consultants, AQF Certificate 3 in Arboriculture for Contractors), Insured and Experienced.

The QAA runs regular workshops and seminars for our membership and for interested outsiders. Throughout 2011 we have presented workshops as diverse as: Quantified Tree Risk Assessment; Veteran Tree Management; Trees and Ecology; Neighbourhood Disputes Resolution Act-Nuisance Tree Legislation; and Visual Tree Assessment.

Membership of the QAA is open to all; we are an inclusive Association and welcome anyone interested in trees and their management. We are, however, keen to add benefits to those who attempt to improve their professionalism and Qualified Members are entitled to a 10% reduction in their Public Liability Insurance premiums as well as access to the Register, if they achieve the required criteria.

QAA Members included in this edition of Outdoor Design Source are all Registered Members, however, the Register is updated regularly as new applications are received. For an up-to-date look at the Register, visit the QAA website at: www.qaa.net.au and click on the “Find an Arborist” tab. On the site you will also find up-to-date relevant information and links to Arboricultural websites of interest. You can also find us on Facebook, where we update our events and add interesting tree industry-related information.
