MARK OF EXCELLENCE

Toyota Head Office, NSW

Toyota’s head office is more than just a workplace — it’s a sensory experience

Featuring magnificent gardens, a water feature, a three-hole golf course and numerous integrated car parks all set in a park-like setting, the head office of Toyota is nothing short of exemplary.

Based in Woolooware Bay, Caringbah in New South Wales, the Toyota headquarters project has been evolving since 2001.

The site was originally a low-lying reclaimed piece of land on the edge of Woolooware Bay. Toyota wanted to turn it into the company’s NSW headquarters and make it a showroom of excellence — a place that epitomises Toyota’s image of excellence and illustrates the company’s commitment to the environment and to its employees.

The aim was to create a place that made employees and visitors feel proud to be associated with the Toyota brand. It was also a requirement that the premises be designed in such a way that allowed people to make good use of the facilities.

To achieve this, Toyota called upon landscape contractor BNS Landscapes Pty Ltd to transform the site. BNS rehabilitated contaminated fill to landscape-quality soil over 4000m3 then designed and constructed most of the landscape, car parks and entertainment and display areas, including an environmental permaculture garden used to supply herbs and vegetables to the commercial canteen.

BNS Landscapes also designed and built a large Hocker-type building to extend the facilities to accommodate the numerous catered functions, meetings and social events that form part of Toyota’s business. Working in close consultation with Toyota, BNS Landscapes was able to design to the client’s specifications and ultimately meet Toyota’s expectations.

“It was important to deliver a great environmental outcome for the fill on site following construction,” says Barry Stubbs from BNS. “It was also crucial to create an environment that would encourage and promote the best from Toyota employees and associates alike.”

Key features of the project include retaining walls which are AB Classic Block; gravel roads and car parks in Western Red Pebble; paving which is Clay Pave Regal Tan and Regal Classic; masonry walls that are painted with Porters Paints; and irrigation which is largely Hunter Sprays and controllers with Netafin that drip to most garden beds on remote controllers.
