A designated family play area with spectacular ocean views — what more could you ask for?
Completed in 2008, the family play area at Grant Reserve in Coogee Beach, Sydney, has been transformed into a colourful and artistic space suitable for both children and adults.
Coogee Beach is a major drawcard for tourists and a popular destination for residents and visitors. A family play area has been located at the spot for more than 20 years. Randwick Council was keen to upgrade the space and create an iconic playground that would attract more families to the area and ESD Landscape Contractors was called upon to help transform Grant Reserve.
ESD Landscape Contractors played a project management role in creating the playground, which is situated in a prime location right above Coogee Beach. The playground needed to be modern and artistic in order to meet community expectations.
The project involved demolishing the existing playground and constructing the new setup, which included concreting, paving, installation of play equipment with rubber softfall, public art, barbecue and extensive planting.
“Strict EHS and quality checklists were adhered to throughout the construction period,” says Robert Griffith, General Manager of ESD Landscape Contractors. “ESD also managed complex ground-level changes in creating the playground.”
Key features of the project include coloured concrete paving, interactive and interpretative playground features for sound and touch, fencing, turf, planting, park furniture, safety surfacing (rubber softfall), brick and timber edging, shade sails and artwork.
The playground ESD constructed has an open design so parents can watch and supervise their children as they play. In addition to being a safe environment, the area also has picturesque views of the coast.
Described as artistic, colourful and functional, the new family play area at Grant Reserve caters to the needs of both children and adults. With a designated play area for kids, and a perfect area for adults to have parties, picnics or barbecues, Grant Reserve combines functionality and colourful design with an iconic location. And, being in close proximity to Coogee Beach and with spectacular ocean views, Grant Reserve is the perfect place to unwind and relax.
