National Water Week

National Water Week 2009 is Australia’s premier community water awareness event, hosted by the Australian Water Association (AWA), in partnership with the National Water Commission.
This year’s National Water Week runs from October 18 to 24, and the campaign is being supported by television personality and presenter on Network Ten’s ‘Totally Wild’ program, Natalie Hunter.
“Like many Australians, I love water and the outdoors. National Water Week is a great opportunity for all of us to learn about the simple things we can do to protect our waterways and be efficient in our water use. Making sure we all have clean water for drinking, recreation and the environment is everyone’s responsibility, and I encourage everyone to get involved,” says Natalie.
There are a number of activities happening during National Water Week, including:
Walk for Water
Walk 10,000 steps every day during the month of October to experience what millions of people in developing nations experience every day to fetch water, and raise money for charity WaterAid.
MDBA River Health Conference
A gathering of over 2,500 students from across Australia and the world, converging on Canberra to discuss rivers and sustainability.
Sustainable Neighbourhood Guided Walking Tour (Collingwood)
Grow Your Own Garden design workshop (Port Melbourne)
National Maritime Museum’s ‘Cruise Forum’
On Historic Harbour Pools at Darling Harbour, which includes a lecture at the museum followed by a cruise, picnic and viewing of the exhibition ‘Exposed’.
Water and Energy Expo (Logan City)
A free event featuring exhibitions on water and energy saving around your home and at your business.
