Shade Sails
If you’re interested in modern, unique shade structures, then a shade sail might be just the thing. These items look just like the sail on a ship and can offer excellent protection from the sun, as well as a unique look and style for your outdoor area. Shade sails are available in a range of configurations, from simple affairs to elaborate constructions designed for use over outdoor bleachers.
Arbors as Shade Structures
Another excellent choice for your needs is an arbor. These are standalone structures designed to look like outdoor rooms. At their simplest, they offer a floor and a roof supported by posts. You can also modify these shade structures by adding trellises for climbing plants, ceiling fans to create a breeze and other elements.
Umbrellas
Umbrellas are probably the most common type of shade structures used anywhere. You’ll find traditional umbrellas made from fabric that can be put up when needed and taken down when the outdoor area is not in use or during the winter. There are also permanent umbrellas made from concrete that offer benefits, though they’re more expensive.
Pergolas
Pergolas are a bit like arbors except that they usually lack a floor of their own. You can add these shade structures to your deck or patio, or they can be constructed in a yard on their own. Usually, these types of shade structures have a trellised roof rather than a solid roof like an arbor, which makes them ideal for climbing plants.
