THE BENEFITS OF TRAVERTINE

by SAI STONE

As one of the leading stone suppliers in the industry, Sai Sandstone has been supplying beautiful, quality assured stone materials to their clients for over a decade. They choose only the best and most appropriate types of stone for their projects from a wide selection of quality stone types. One of these beautiful and practical stone mediums is called Travertine.

Originally named ‘Lapis Tiburtinus’ (meaning Tibur stone), with the name gradually corrupted to travertine, this stone has been used as building materials since the days of the ancient Romans who mined deposits of travertine for building temples, aqueducts, monuments, bath complexes, and amphitheatres. Impressive structures that make use of this material include the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris, the 20th-century Getty Centre in Los Angeles, California, and Shell-Haus in Berlin as well as the Colosseum in Rome, the largest building ever constructed from Travertine. It is also frequently used in modern architecture.

The difference between Travertine and most other stone is the way that the stone is formed. Travertine is a form of limestone that has been deposited over time by mineral springs, most particularly by hot springs. It can also form within limestone caves.  A key characteristic of Travertine stone are the holes within the stone and it often has a fibrous or concentric appearance. Travertine has been found to exist in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties.

Travertine stone flooring will literally last a lifetime and longer. What's more, it has a luxurious feel and is seen as an investment material, particularly as it can add value to a home. It can also bring a sense of homeliness and warmth to a property and offers earthy, classic tones to any home, resulting in an attractive, natural finish.

Some of the more common indoor uses of Travertine can include:
