MOSS VALE PARK CREATES OLD WORLD CHARM WITH BORAL PAVERS

In celebration of Moss Vale’s 150th birthday, Wingecarribee Shire Council re-landscaped Leighton Gardens. Using 260m2 of Boral Bradstone Old Town pavers, the Council created an easily serviceable pathway that reflects the park’s heritage value and old world charm.“Leighton Gardens is one of the Shire’s main focus parks, so we wanted to create a space that would show off botanical displays and provide more options for recreational use. The pathway is a lovely link between the top and bottom sections of the park, allowing people to walk through or take a seat and enjoy the view,” said Michelle Green, capital projects officer at Wingecarribee Shire Council, who managed the project.

The existing park was tired, with ageing infrastructure, drainage issues and heavily shaded areas which prevented grass cover. The Council’s landscape team upgraded the park’s paving, garden beds and sandstone walls over four months. The project also required irrigation work, tree removal and planting.

The Council’s landscape team leader, Ryan Petty, opted for Boral Bradstone Old Town pavers in Grey Green for ease of installation and heritage appeal. Made up of three different sizes, Bradstone Old Town pavers are laid in a pattern that complements the design the council was seeking.

“We were working to a tight time frame in wet winter weather, and felt the Boral Bradstone pavers would be the better option as they’re quick to lay, easily serviceable, complement the sandstone walls and have old world charm,” explained Petty.

As Bradstone pavers are segmental, they can replaced or pulled up individually, if required. Pipes and services can be accessed without obvious signs of work, provided this is done so correctly.

The Council recruited a new landscaping team for the project. Working around drainage replacements and tree removal, the team prepared the pathway for new pavers. This included levelling out parts of the path to ensure the pavers were laid flat and integrated with the existing footpath.

“With so many aspects to this project and a tight timeframe, it was vital that materials were delivered on time and in good condition. Boral met these requirements, enabling us to adhere to project timelines and budgets.

“Ultimately, the use of Boral Bradstone pavers helped us achieve a beautiful open space in which visitors and residents can experience the change and colour of a southern highlands cool climate garden,” said Green.
