Project : Brisbane Botanic Gardens Legacy Way Expansion

In November 2015 Timberwolf embarked on a once in a lifetime project - planting the 4ha Legacy Way expansion to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Spanning six months and incorporating over 1,100 species, this project was a milestone achievement and represents Timberwolf’s most ambitious project yet.

The expansion, the largest upgrade to the Gardens since they opened in 1970, is designed as a native conservation garden, a living showcase of Queensland’s native vegetation communities. The design splits the area into 38 different Queensland ecosystem types, ranging from tropical rainforests of Cape York to eucalypt forests the New England Tableland. Timberwolf was responsible for installing the ‘underplanting’ component of the 30,000 plants that made up the expansion (tubestock up to 300mm pots), an exceptional undertaking that was recognised with admiration by the main contractor Dig It Landscapes.

“Planting over 30 different botanic displays and 1000 species is a considerable feat”, Alan Burnell, Dig It’s Horticultural Manager reported. “Timberwolf took on this project with considerable skill and were an absolute pleasure to work with; demonstrating professionalism and proficiency across all aspects of the planting operations.”

Sub-tropical summer heat, thunderstorms and flooding rains presented a number of challenges, interrupting and delaying works. Timberwolf met these challenges with tenacity and perseverance that the company is renowned for.

The head Landscape Architect on the project Phil Kleinschmidt from RPS reported “Timberwolf undertook this work with perseverance and enthusiasm. Timberwolf’s work on this project was exceptional and the success of the final product is in no small part due to Timberwolf’s unwavering commitment to the quality of the final product.”

Timberwolf undertook this momentous project from November 2014 to May 2015, in collaboration with Dig It Landscapes, RPS Landscapes and Brisbane City Council.
